Couples therapy, with space for both of you.
Explore recurring conflict, communication difficulties, and emotional distance with attention to each partner’s experience. The first step is understanding the patterns you want to change.
Ask about availability ↗When conversations keep circling
Arguments may repeat without resolution, or difficult subjects may be avoided altogether. Work pressures, parenting demands, life transitions, or changes in trust can affect how connected partners feel.
Couples therapy offers a setting to examine these experiences together. We can explore what happens in difficult conversations, how needs are expressed, and the patterns that leave each person feeling misunderstood.
Understanding the relationship pattern
Dr. Morrison draws on Emotionally Focused Therapy and Gottman-informed approaches. The work may explore emotional experiences, communication, conflict patterns, and ways to express needs more clearly.
The process is collaborative. There is room for each partner to ask questions and consider goals. We discuss what the work involves and whether the available approach is appropriate for your circumstances.
Making practical arrangements
Before beginning, ask about the session format, fee, availability, and how appointments are arranged. If sessions will take place online, tell the practice where each partner will be physically located.
Dr. Morrison is licensed in NY, NJ, CT, TX, KY, and VA. Eligibility needs to be confirmed for both partners. An inquiry gives the practice the opportunity to clarify these details before an appointment is confirmed.
Questions before you begin
Can we begin if we see the problem differently?
An initial conversation can help identify each partner’s concerns and whether there are goals you want to explore together. You do not need identical explanations before asking about the service.
Is individual therapy the same service?
Individual psychotherapy focuses on one person’s concerns and goals. Couples therapy involves the relationship and both partners. Ask about the arrangement that fits your needs.
What should we include in an inquiry?
Share that you are asking about couples therapy, your contact details, and where each partner will be located. Keep the inquiry brief; avoid sending sensitive relationship histories through the website.
